The season 2015/16 was the ninth regular Time after renaming the former Swiss National League A in National League A defined by the SC Bern was recovered. The regular season began on September 9, 2015 with the early game of ZSC Lions against SC Bern and ended on February 27, 2016. The play-offs and play-outs began on March 3, 2016.

mode

The 12 teams play two double rounds of 22 games each. There are also 6 additional encounters per team against 3 opponents, which are determined on the basis of a regional division (east, central, west). In total, each team plays 50 qualifying games. Then the best eight teams will determine the Swiss champions in play-off style. The quarter-finals , semi-finals and the final are played according to the best-of-seven mode .

The other four teams determine in the play-outs which team has to play against the champions of National League B to stay in the league.

In the 2015/16 season, twelve teams will be represented in the NLA. After a two-year absence, the SCL Tigers are back in the league , who prevailed against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers for the last free place in the league qualification of the previous season .

After the relegation round, which lasts six game days, the two clubs in positions eleven and twelve determine the NLA's last-placed team in Best of Seven , who then has to play the league qualification against the NLB champions.

The league qualification was intended as a playoff series Best of Seven . Since the NLB master HC Ajoie had not submitted a license application, the league qualification was omitted in the 2015/16 season. The EHC Biel thus remained without a fight in the NLA.
