The Nussensee is a small lake in the Kater Mountains . It is located near Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut .

It has an area of ​​about 10  hectares and a maximum depth of 14.7 meters. The Nussensee is about 600 meters long and up to 250 meters wide and a karst water lake. It is a pressurized water lake , which is almost entirely fed by springs under the water surface, and is subject to fluctuations in level of several meters, which regularly leads to the drying up of the overflow, the Nussenbach (Nussenseeache) that rises there .

The lake is fully designated as a nature reserve ( Nussensee in Bad Ischl  N015 , 10.2479 ha).

The area is a popular local recreation area for Ischl. The lake is a bathing lake, with good water status, but fluctuating from very good to moderate (I – III) depending on the year, but always good as bathing water.
