The men's Alpine Combined at the 1992 Winter Olympics was held from February 10th to 11th on the La face de Bellevarde slope in Val-d'Isère .
The race consisted of a downhill run and two slalom runs . The time in the downhill run and the total time from both slalom runs were converted into points; the winner was the athlete with the fewest points.
Due to heavy snowfall the night before the downhill run, the slope had to be re-groomed, causing the start to be postponed by two hours. The reigning World Cup winner in the combination Marc Girardelli from Luxembourg was traded as the favorite . However, the Luxembourger immediately fell downhill and was eliminated. The Swiss Paul Accola , who started the race as the World Cup leader in the combined, finished the downhill run in fifth. In his first slalom run, after missing a goal, he rose again and reached the goal 8 seconds behind defending champion Hubert Strolz from Austria. However, Strolz missed a goal in the second round and was therefore disqualified. The rather unknown South Tyrolean Italian Josef Polig , who became Olympic champion, took advantage of this mistake . His also relatively unknown compatriot Gianfranco Martin landed on the silver rank . Steve Locher from Switzerland won bronze.
