Palais Kees

The Palais Kees is a former Graz palace on the corner of Elisabethstrasse and Glacisstrasse in the Innere Stadt district .

History, architecture and design

The palace was built between 1843 and 1845 by the architect Georg Hauberrisser the Elder for Johann Christoph Kees as an apartment building. It is the most important building of late classicism in Graz. From 1884 the kuk corps command was on the premises. After the renovations started in 2009 and a large-scale restoration, the former Palais Kees is now a student residence.

The four-story structure dates from the Biedermeier period . The central projection on the front has a monumental colonnade front with balustrades. The two stone portals with gate wings from the construction period are adorned with pilasters and a continuous frieze as well as baffle stones.
