Paul Annacone (born March 20, 1963 in Southampton , New York ) is a retired American tennis player .

Career

Paul Annacone won three tournaments in singles and 14 titles in doubles. His greatest success was the 1985 Australian Open win in doubles with South African Christo van Rensburg . He qualified three times with van Rensburg for the double masters final. At the 1985 Masters Final, which took place in January 1986, they failed 4-6 and 3-6 to Stefan Edberg and Anders Järryd . At the Masters Final 1987, which took place in December 1987, they failed after victories over Peter Doohan and Laurie Warder and Gary Donnelly and Peter Fleming and defeats to Stefan Edberg and Anders Järryd and Miloslav Mečíř and Tomáš Šmíd . At the Masters Final 1989, which took place in December 1989, they were eliminated after four defeats in the preliminary round.

Annacone only played once for the US Davis Cup team . In the 1986 semifinals of the world group against Australia in Brisbane , he lost on the side of Ken Flach against Pat Cash and John Fitzgerald in five sets.

Annacone was best known as the long-time coach of Pete Sampras with whom he worked from 1995 to 2001 and again in July 2002 and was able to celebrate many successes. In 2004 he was Tim Henman's coach for a short time . In April 2008 he took over the office of Davis Cup team manager from Great Britain, from which he resigned in May 2010. From August 2010 to October 2013 he trained the Swiss Roger Federer .
