Petteri Timo Nummelin (born November 25, 1972 in Turku ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Nikkō IceBucks in the Asia League Ice Hockey .

Career

Petteri Nummelin began his career in 1989 in his hometown of Turku at TPS in the A-youth. In 1990 he started his professional career at Kiekko-67 Turku. After playing there and with the Pelicans Lahti for a few seasons, he moved to Västra Frölunda in 1995 in the Swedish Elitserien . In 1997 he played for HC Davos in Switzerland . It was not until the NHL Entry Draft 2000 that the now 27-year-old Nummelin was drafted as 133rd by the Columbus Blue Jackets . This brought him to the 2000/01 season in the National Hockey League , but after one season he left the NHL and moved to HC Lugano . With Lugano he won the Swiss championship title twice and several awards e.g. B. as MVP of the NLA.

After his second Swiss championship title with HC Lugano, he switched to the NHL with the Minnesota Wild for two years, despite the contract being continued for two more years (until 2008) . From the 2008/09 season he played again at HC Lugano, as he had signed a three-year contract with an option for two more years. In autumn 2012, Nummelin was loaned to his home club TPS for a total of eight games. In March 2013, Nummelin initially planned to end his career after 568 NLA games (and 624 scorer points), but then decided to continue his career with Lukko Rauma .

From May 2014 he was again under contract with his hometown club TPS and acted there as assistant and team captain until 2016.

International

For Finland , Nummelin took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 1992 and the A World Championships from 1995 to 2007. He was also in Finland's squad for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . In his career, Nummelin has played over 250 games for the national team.
