The 1974 Pontins Professional was a snooker tournament as part of the 1973/74 season . It was the first purely professional tournament at the holiday operator Pontins' holiday park in Prestatyn on the north coast of Wales. It took place in May 1974 following the World Cup .

Welshman Ray Reardon and Englishman John Spencer played the final . The game went the full distance and World Champion Reardon won the first title 10: 9.

Prize money

The game was played for £ 1,000 , which the tournament winner received as prize money.

Final round

The tournament had 8 participants and was high-ranking. Four world champions, including the reigning Ray Reardon , and top players from Australia and Canada competed . An elimination tournament was played in three rounds until the winner was determined. Very long games were played, the quarter-finals were already played on 7 winning frames ( best of 13 ), the winner in the final was whoever won 10 frames first.
