economy
For centuries, the region around Puerto Lumbreras was oriented towards agriculture, whereby today , in addition to the cultivation of numerous almond and olive trees , greenhouse crops for vegetables and flowers are particularly important. Small traders, craftsmen and service companies of all kinds have settled in the village.
history
Prehistoric, Iberian , Roman and Visigoth finds are sparse. In the years 711-756 the area around Lorca belonged to the largely independent kingdom of Todmir , which only went up in 756 in Al-Andalus . As part of the Christian reconquest ( reconquista ) , the Castilians came under Alfonso IX. (r. 1188-1230) to Murcia and conquered Lorca in 1224. It is not known whether a forerunner of today's Puerto Lumbreras already existed. The Taifa Kingdom of Murcia, which has been virtually independent since the end of the Caliphate of Córdoba (1031) , was then converted into a Christian kingdom , which was, however, closely linked to the Crown of Castile , but came under Aragonese rule from 1296 to 1304 . After that of Philip III. (ruled 1598–1621) and his first minister, the Duke of Lerma , ordered the expulsion of the last Moors ( moriscos ) at the beginning of the 17th century, the population of the region declined significantly.
Attractions
- The origins of the Castillo de Nogalte probably date back to the Islamic period. In the 13th and 14th centuries it was expanded by the Christians and served as a bulwark against the neighboring emirate of Granada . With its conquest in 1492, it lost its strategic importance and fell into disrepair. It was restored towards the end of the 20th century.
- Some cave dwellings (casas cueva) have been driven into the castle hill , in which the first inhabitants of the place probably lived. The chimneys in the respective kitchens are remarkable.
- Construction of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario began in 1724, but the church was not completed until 1820. Even after that, a number of structural changes were made. The nave (nature) has side chapels and stitch cap arched .
- The fountain system of the Fuente de los Caños is first mentioned in the 18th century. It was fed by the subterranean watercourse of the Rambla de Nogalte , which was destroyed in a catastrophic flood in 1973. Today the system is connected to the municipal water supply.
- Surroundings
- The Ermita de los Manchones is a building from the 18th and / or 19th century and probably formerly belonged to the neighboring finca.
- The Molino de Béjar was in operation until the early 20th century.
- At the approx. 1250 m high hamlet of Cabezo de la Jara there is a small observatory.
