Ralph Bryans (born March 7, 1941 in Belfast , Northern Ireland , † August 6, 2014 ) was a British motorcycle racer .

The greatest success of his career was winning the world title in the 50 cm³ class in the 1965 season .

Career

Ralph Bryans made his debut with a ninth place at the 1963 Ulster Grand Prix on a Norton in the motorcycle world championship . In the following years he only started for Honda , mostly in the small displacement classes. He achieved his first victory in 1964 at the Dutch TT in the 50cc class, which was followed by two more over the course of the season. That year he was the 50s runner- up behind New Zealander Hugh Anderson .

In the 1965 season , Bryans again achieved three racing victories in the 50 cc class on his factory-supported Honda, and this year, just ahead of Luigi Taveri from Switzerland and Hugh Anderson, it was also enough for the world title. In 1966 he was runner- up in the 50 category behind Hans Georg Anscheidt ; in the 125cc class, he took third place overall. In 1967 Bryans started in the classes up to 250 and 350 cm³ and finished fourth and third respectively. At the end of the season, Ralph Bryans ended his career in the motorcycle world championship.

In his short career, Bryans contested 62 motorcycle Grand Prix and was able to celebrate ten wins and 40 podium finishes. He died on August 6, 2014 at the age of 73 after a long illness at his home in Scotland .
