Rick ross
Rick Ross (born January 28, 1976 in Coahoma County , Mississippi ; also Rick Ro $$ or Ricky Rozay , actually William Leonard Roberts II ) is an American rapper . Together with Trina and Trick Daddy , he forms the rap label Slip'N'Slide . The name Rick Ross is derived from Ricky "Freeway" Ross, a well-known crack dealer who lived in Los Angeles in the 1980s and 1990s .
biography
Rick Ross grew up in Carol City , Florida , where he also attended high school . After graduating in the spring of 1994, a football scholarship enabled him to study at Albany State University in Georgia , where he studied criminal law. After a year he dropped out and applied to work as a correctional officer . For the next 18 months to June 1997, he worked as a prison guard at the South Florida Reception Center in Miami-Dade County .
In the mid-1990s, Ross founded the rap group Carol City Cartel , which was briefly signed to Suave House Records and eventually to Slip 'N' Slide . At the beginning of 2000 he made a name for himself primarily through guest appearances on the releases of his label colleagues and as a live supporter of Trick Daddy. It wasn't until 2006 that he released his own material for the first time, which attracted the attention of Sean "Diddy" Combs ' label and Def Jam Recordings , among others . With the latter he signed a contract and brought out the single Hustlin there . This achieved platinum status in May 2006 . On August 8, 2006, his debut album Port of Miami was released in the USA, which landed directly at number one on the US album charts . The album features features from Young Jeezy , Akon , Jay-Z , Lil Wayne and Trick Daddy, among others . Meanwhile Ross has produced several mix tapes with various well-known DJs and is now taking care of the singer Ashley Ross from Miami.
In January 2008, he was arrested by Florida police for concealed carrying a gun and possession of a small amount of cannabis .
On March 17, 2017, his 9th studio album, Rather You Than Me , was released, which rose to number 3 on the charts in the United States.
controversy
Rick Ross can be heard as a guest in the 2013 song UOENO by rapper Rocko. According to critics, in his rap he addresses a self-committed date rape . After protests, the sporting goods manufacturer Reebok announced an advertising contract with the rapper despite an apology from Ross and his assurances that the lines were not alluding to rape. Rocko also released a remix of the song, in which Ross' verse was replaced by a guest post by Wiz Khalifa .
