The Out4Fame Festival is a hip-hop event that takes place on the Schwarzen Heide in Hünxe . In 2017 the location was the Revierpark Wischlingen in Dortmund.

history

The Out4Fame Entertainment agency was founded in 1998 to organize tours and produce hip-hop DVDs. With the publication of the DVDs Fire over Germany and 1on1 Freestyle Battle , the company was able to gain first recognition. As the organizer, Out4Fame was also responsible for numerous concerts by American hip-hop musicians such as Snoop Dogg , Nas , Ryan Leslie and Boyz II Men . Based on these experiences, the idea arose to organize a hip-hop festival in North Rhine-Westphalia as the “ next challenge ”. The festival was organized by Mario “Dako” da Costa, Carlos Wind and Sebastian “Catcher” Yurtseven. These were 1999, the hip-hop scene of open-air music festivals Rheinkultur initiated and organized the end of 2011 until the cessation of the event. After a long search for a suitable venue, Out4Fame came into contact with the organizer of the punk festival Ruhrpott Rodeo . The idea arose to share the location and let both festivals take place in Hünxe a few days apart. The area of ​​the Schwarze Heide airfield covers 16,000 square meters, which can accommodate around 12,000 visitors.

In October 2013 da Costa and Wind started preparations for the first edition of the festival. When selecting the artists, the focus was on hip-hop musicians from the 1990s such as Method Man , Redman , DMX , Onyx and MOP . With these, Out4Fame had already organized numerous appearances as part of the Urban Legends concert series in various European countries. In mid-December 2013 followed the announcement of the festival date for June 7th and 8th, 2014 as well as Kool Savas , Kollegah , Farid Bang , Fard and Snaga & Pillath as the first confirmed artists. At the end of February, Out4Fame announced the duo Method Man & Redman as headlining the festival. According to Carlos Wind, 5,000 tickets were sold in advance for the first edition of the Out4Fame Festival . The event finally had 6,500 visitors.

After the first edition was held, advance sales for the second Out4Fame festival started in June 2014 . In mid-December, Samy Deluxe , Celo & Abdi , Talib Kweli , DCVDNS , 187 Strassenbande and Too Strong as well as Wu-Tang Clan were confirmed as headliners of the second festival. In this context, the date was set for June 12th and 13th, 2015. Over the next few months, the artists EPMD , Mos Def , Busta Rhymes and Mobb Deep were announced. After the end of the first day of the festival, Foxy Brown's planned performance had to be canceled due to a missed flight.

The Out4Fame Festival 2016 was announced at the same time as the second edition of the festival. Along with this, an extension of the event to three days was announced. At the beginning of 2016, the dates of the festival were set for the period July 29th to 31st. With Sido , Kool Savas, Haftbefehl , Pillath, Lakmann One , Olli Banjo, Olexesh and Nimo, among others , the first rappers have already been determined. In April, Method Man and Redman, and finally Rick Ross, were announced as headliners. The signing of rapper Slick Rick attracted international attention in June . He had his first concert outside the United States since 1990 and his first appearance in Germany at all at the Out4Fame Festival. The third Out4Fame festival was visited by around 7,000 people on each day of the event.

Due to the better transport and internet connections as well as for marketing reasons, the relocation of the 2017 festival to Dortmund was announced in August 2016. The Wischlingen district park was chosen as the venue . In November, MoTrip , Prinz Pi , Celo & Abdi, Morlockk Dilemma , Too Strong and Witten Untouchable were named the first participants in the fourth edition. At the beginning of June 2017, Busta Rhymes was confirmed as the last artist. The Out4Fame festival finally took place from August 18 to 20, 2017 and was dedicated to the rapper Prodigy , who had died two months earlier . The event was accompanied by some personal and technical difficulties. On July 18, 2017, the rapper Common , who was booked as the headliner, canceled his participation a few hours before his performance for health reasons. The New York Yasiin Bey could be won as a replacement at short notice. Furthermore, the sound technology caused several problems on both festival stages. So the rapper Kalim broke off his performance after several interruptions. During Kool Savas' performance, the sound went completely off for some time. The main act Busta Rhymes was also disturbed by a defective box.
