Riina Solman (until 2013 Riina Vändre ; born June 23, 1972 in Viljandi ) is an Estonian politician . She belongs to the conservative Isamaa ("Fatherland") party . Riina Solman has been Minister for Population Affairs in the coalition government of Prime Minister Jüri Ratas since April 29, 2019 .

Life

Riina Solman graduated from school in her hometown of Viljandi. She then studied teaching and elementary education at the Tallinn University of Education (now Tallinn University ).

From 2005 to 2007 she worked as a media and communications advisor for the predecessor party of today's Fatherland Union (Isamaa ja Res Publica Liit - IRL) and from 2007 to 2011 as a public relations advisor in the Estonian Ministry of Defense. From 2011 to 2014 she was a marketing and communication consultant for Estonian commercial enterprises before working for the Viimsi municipality in 2014/2015 . From 2015 to 2017, Riina Solman was head of the press department at the Estonian Ministry of Justice. From 2017 to 2019 she was an advisor to the Estonian Minister of Justice Urmas Reinsalu .

politics

In 2007 she joined the IRL. In 2013 Riina Solman was elected to the city council of the Estonian capital Tallinn . For her party, she initially held the post of deputy group leader. After the local elections in 2017 , she rose to the position of parliamentary group leader in the city council. In addition, she holds numerous positions in the voluntary welfare sector.

At the end of April 2019, she joined the cabinet of Prime Minister Jüri Ratas as Minister for Population Affairs (Rahvastikuminister) . She also leads the women's association of her party. Riina Solman particularly advocates “family and Christian values” in politics.

Private

Riina Solman was married to the Estonian politician and entrepreneur Rain Vändre (1966-2010). After his death, she married the entrepreneur Peeter Solman (* 1970) in March 2013. She has two sons.
