Robert Barton Englund (born June 6, 1947 in Glendale , California ) is an American actor and director . He achieved worldwide fame primarily as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare films.

Live and act

Englund graduated from California State University, Northridge . In 1974 he made his film debut in the romantic drama Buster Loves Billie ( Buster and Billie ), followed by other film assignments in mostly smaller roles, such as in the crime film Streets of the Night (1975) with Burt Reynolds and Catherine Deneuve , the comedy Mr. Universum (1976 ) with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jeff Bridges and the adventure film The Day of Reckoning (1976) with Charles Bronson . In 1976 he starred in the horror film Blutrausch ( Eaten Alive ) by director Tobe Hooper , where Englund acted an instinctual madman. More horror films followed, until he returned in 1984 after a brief period of abstinence from the screen and gained international fame with the role of Freddy Krueger in the films of the Nightmare series.

Due to his popularity as Freddy Krueger , he made guest appearances in numerous television series. In 1989 he made his debut as a director with the horror film 976-EVIL .

Englund is married for the third time.

Awards

  • For the role of Freddy Krueger in parts 3 and 4 of the series, he received a nomination for the Saturn Award as best supporting actor. In 2001 he received a special award for his life's work from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films .

Robert Englund was born in Germany in his role as Freddy Krueger by Detlef Bierstedt (Nightmare 1,4,5, Freddy vs Jason), Tommi Piper (Nightmare 3), Klaus Kindler (Nightmare 6), Franjo Marincic (Nightmare 2) and Wolfgang Müller (New Nightmare) synchronized.

The speakers of Englund changed more often, so he was dubbed by Ulrich Frank , Reinhard Kuhnert , Wolfgang Ostberg , Achim Schülke , Holger Mahlich and Henry König . Recently, Jan Spitzer has been the most active voice actor.
