The Rock Hard Festival (abbreviated RHF) is a Metal - Festival , which by the magazine Rock Hard was launched and a year in Gelsenkirchen takes place.

history

Dead Lord live 2014

The rock-hard festival in its current form took place for the first time in 2003 in the amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen on the Rhine-Herne Canal . Numerous metal greats such as Blind Guardian , Saxon , Anthrax or Kreator were on stage. It was planned as a one-off festival for the 20th anniversary of Rock Hard , but was repeated in 2004 due to its great success and now takes place annually at Whitsun . Since then, the Ruhr area , after all the most populous metropolitan area in Europe, has had an international festival. The amphitheater offers space for around 7,000 visitors.

There was already a rock-hard festival at the beginning of the 1990s, which was also organized by the magazine, but took place in different locations in Germany. It first took place in 1990 in Lichtenfels as a one-day rock hard open air festival . In 1991 it took place in two places, in Berlin and again in Lichtenfels. The occasion was the 50th issue of the magazine. Originally it was planned for this year in Sonneberg near Coburg , but had to be moved at short notice, after the publication of the promising issue, at the instigation of the city of Sonneberg. It was therefore decided to switch to the location of the previous year. At the outdoor events, there was also some talk of Rock Hard Open Air , but the Berlin tickets were labeled Rock Hard Festival .
