Rolf Ramcke

Rolf Ramcke (also: Rolf-Dieter Ramcke ; born November 4, 1933 in Alveslohe ; † June 12, 2020 ) was a German architect , non-fiction author and university professor whose main place of work was Hanover .

Life

From 1962 to 1996, Rolf-Dieter Ramcke worked for more than three decades as a design architect for public buildings in the building department of the city of Hanover.

Ramcke's early work included his award-winning design for the daycare center Sylter Weg 20 , which opened in 1967 in the Hanover district of List and was listed as a historical monument in 2012 .

Ramcke's new building of the (then) University of Music and Drama Hanover (HMTH), which was built between 1970 and 1973, was spectacular in place of the previously demolished city restaurant Neues Haus : The floor plan of the university can only be seen from a bird's eye view in the form of a snail or an ear which curves around an open inner courtyard in fair-faced concrete.

  • 1970–1973: Hanover University of Music and Theater (HMTH), Emmichplatz 1
  • 1975–1976: Reconstruction of the ground floor of the old town hall , on the side of Karmarschstrasse instead of a branch of the Sparkasse, construction of an entrance to the subway and a shop arcade; these modifications were eliminated from 1997 to 1999.
  • 1979–1981: Installation of the Lindener Ratskeller restaurant and a hall in the New Linden Town Hall on Lindener Marktplatz , to replace the Posthorn and Schwarzer Bär restaurants previously used (and closed) by the Lindener associations
