Rolf Thorsen

Rolf Bernt Thorsen (born February 22, 1961 in Zurich ) is a former Norwegian rower who won two Olympic silver medals.

Career

Thorsen won his first international medal at the Rowing World Championships in 1981. Together with Alf Hansen , he took third place in the double scull . In 1982 they received gold and in 1983 they came second behind Thomas Lange and Uwe Heppner from the GDR. At the Olympic Games in 1984 , the two missed the final and only finished eleventh in the end.

In 1987 Thorsen was in the Norwegian quadruple and won silver at the World Championships behind the boat from the Soviet Union. At the 1988 Olympics , the Norwegian went quadruple sculls with Vetle Vinje , Lars Bjønness , Rolf Thorsen and Alf Hansen as one of the favorites, but lost in the final the Italians to Agostino Abbagnale beaten.

In 1989 Lars Bjønness and Rolf Thorsen competed as a double scull and won the title at the World Championships. This earned both of them the Morgenbladet gold medal . At the Olympic Games in 1992 , Thorsen and Bjønness sat together with Kjetil Undset and Per Sætersdal in the quad scull and won silver behind the German quad scull. In 1993, Thorsen and Bjønness again finished second in a double scull behind the French Yves Lamarque and Samuel Barathay . In 1994 Thorsen won his third gold medal at world championships, the second with Lars Bjønness.

In 1996 Rolf Thorsen received the Thomas Keller Medal from the FISA World Rowing Association .
