The Suco Rotuto is located to the west of the Same administrative office. To the northeast is the Suco Letefoho , to the south the Sucos Dai-Sua and Grotu . In the west, Rotuto borders on the municipality of Ainaro with its Sucos Mauchiga ( Hatu-Builico administrative office ) and Leolima ( Hato-Udo administrative office ). The Moussamau , a source river of the Caraulun , has its source in Rotuto and flows southwards.

Before the 2015 regional reform, Rotuto had an area of 2.34 km². Now it is 12.70 km². From Letefoho Rotuto received the headwaters of the Moussamau and the Manufahi settlement . There is one primary school, the Escola Primaria Sabou . The Suco is poorly connected to the outside world in terms of traffic. For the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2007 the ballot boxes had to be brought to the polling station with horses and porters and then picked up again.

In the Suco there are the five Aldeias Bere-Teni , Foe-Hei , Hatu-Hei , Leo-Fat and Sabou .

Residents

In 2004 only 33 people lived in Rotuto, but possibly due to the return of refugees, the population increased significantly in the following years, so that in 2010 there were again 866 people living in the Suco. In 2015 there were 848 inhabitants (2015), of which 413 are men and 435 women. The population density is 66.8 inhabitants / km². There are 173 households in the Suco. Almost 59% of the population name Mambai as their mother tongue. 40% speak Tetum Prasa and a small minority speak Habun .

history

On August 20, 1982, FALINTIL fighters attacked the Indonesian Hansip (civil defense) in Rotuto. This was part of the Cabalaki uprising , in which several Indonesian bases in the region were attacked at the same time. The Indonesians immediately sent troops to the region. Houses were burned down, schools closed, and women and children were forced to keep watch in military posts. There were also forced relocations, pillage, looting and rape. FALINTIL fighters and much of the population fled the area.

economy

In 2010 storms and landslides destroyed the fields in Rotuto. In any case, the region's soils are not considered to be very productive, which is why there is always a lack of food.

On December 20, 2010, a photovoltaic system was inaugurated as part of a pilot project by the Korean YMCA , which is to supply the Suco with electricity. Each of the 350 families in the Suco also received a 6-watt lamp and a rechargeable battery.

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Alarico dos Santos elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected.
