Route of industrial culture - industrial nature
Theme route 24: Industrial nature of the RIK |
Industrial nature is the name of theme route 24 of the Route of Industrial Culture .
The themed route shows the connection between the former industrial use of various areas and the surrounding and reclaiming nature. The landscape in the Ruhr area has been permanently changed by heaps of heaps , industrial plants (such as collieries, coking plants or processing plants) and transport infrastructure (such as canal construction or railroad areas). The human interventions also indirectly led to changes in the landscape . The mining of coal led to subsidence , which resulted in new lakes (for example the Hallerey and Beversee lakes mentioned in this route) and problems with the runoff of the Emscher and its tributaries, which resulted in their being converted into sewers ( Köttelbecke ).
Even during the operating time of the industrial companies, isolated plants settled, after the shutdown nature conquered the industry collapsed step by step. The fauna and flora adapts to the changed living conditions and shows itself with rare species and ecosystems that are unusual for the environment. Typical changes in the areas were the compaction of the soil and the deposition of raw materials and products such as overburden , ash, lime, ore or coal, which led to dry and nutrient-poor soils, which heated up strongly in the sunshine. In contrast to this, damp areas were created in the subsidence areas.
Relics from industrial history and newly designed works of art make the areas even more interesting. In many cases, very different locations are close together so that they can be visited promptly and compared to one another, for example the Ripshorst house with the Vondern wasteland in the north and the Frintrop track park in the south or the nature reserve at Lake Hallerey near the Hansa coking plant.
In 2011 the RVR rebuilt and expanded the themed route, since then it has 19 stations ( changes are indicated in italics ).
