Rudisleben is located in the Geratal between Arnstadt in the south and Ichtershausen in the north. The place is a street village about two kilometers long. Rudisleben is on the east side of the Gera. In the south of the village there are some larger lakes that belong to the local gravel and concrete works and are used by anglers and bathers. Rudisleben is surrounded by agricultural land, in the north is a small forest area. The place is about 250 meters above sea level.

history

Rudisleben was first mentioned in the 8th century as Rudolfeslebo . The current village church of St. Johannes dates from 1732. It was built after the previous building fell victim to a fire. The special thing about the baroque church building is the cross-shaped floor plan. Until 1920 Rudisleben belonged to the sovereignty in the principality or Free State of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , then to the Arnstadt district and since July 1, 1999 to the city of Arnstadt .
The first preparations for the geological exploration of salt deposits in the Flur Rudisleben began in 1845, initiated by a lieutenant engineer August Rost from Erfurt; Mill was built. The water from the nearby Gera was used to drive the feed pumps. Already in the early years of the salt works, brine water was delivered to Arnstadt in barrels to serve as the basis for a spa there. In its heyday, the saltworks, powered by Westphalian hard coal, produced up to 1,000 tons of salt per year, and in 1869 a second drilling was necessary to a depth of 365 m. In 1883 the salt works were acquired by the Flaschendräger brothers. In order to increase production, it was necessary to build a railway line from Arnstadt, which was extended to the neighboring town of Ichtershausen. The salt works were no longer profitable after 1910 due to the chemical composition of the brine; the salt works were shut down in 1912.

During the Second World War , 311 “ Eastern workers ” who were housed in three camps had to do forced labor in local companies : in the Mako and Scholz machine works and at the Polte works .

politics

The local mayor Joachim Lindner was elected in the mayoral election on March 11, 2007, in which he ran as the only candidate.

Economy and Transport

The Arnstadt industrial area is located near Rudisleben. Numerous large companies such as B. the Chema or the newly built Rolls-Royce aircraft turbine plant (N3) are located. In addition to sales outlets such as hardware stores and car dealerships, numerous medium-sized companies have settled there over the years, including two production facilities for solar cells. The Arnshall saltworks used to be in the Rudisleben area west of the Gera . In the village itself there is a small supermarket, a butcher shop, a hairdresser, the gravel and concrete works, a florist shop, a day care center and several restaurants and pensions.

The Rudislebener Dorfstraße leads in the south to the former B 4 to Arnstadt and to the A71 motorway slip road and in the north to Kirchheim . Between 1966 and 1985 the place had a railway connection to the Arnstadt-Ichtershausen Railway . Rudisleben is connected to the A71 motorway via the "Arnstadt Nord" exit. Rudisleben is also on the Gera cycle path .

There are also some associations in the village, such as the voluntary fire brigade association, the fair society or the church choir. They take care of the cultural and social events in the village, such as B. the annual Easter bonfire, the traditional Maypole setting or the Rudisleben fair, which takes place every year on the second weekend in October.

The football club SV Arnstadt Rudisleben also does its part to raise awareness of the small town.

In Rudisleben, construction work began on August 14, 2009 for the Arnstadt juvenile prison , which is being built in the form of a village. It is to replace the JVA Ichtershausen , offer 340 places, cost 73 million euros and be ready in 2014.
