The South Tyrol Scout Association (SP) is a German-speaking Catholic scout association in South Tyrol . In her work she is strongly oriented towards the German Scouting Association Sankt Georg (DPSG).

Self-image

The SP seeks the way to Christ and lives with the Church. It builds on the foundations of scouting based on the idea of the founder Robert Baden-Powell and adapts to the requirements in South Tyrol. The task of the SP is to educate young people according to the objectives and methods that result from their order. The SP works without the intention of making a profit and serves exclusively and directly charitable purposes. The SP is not oriented towards party politics.

history

The SP was founded on April 25, 1973 in Lichtenstern am Ritten as an independent children's and youth association.

The German-speaking scout work in South Tyrol goes back a little further: In 1969, Dean Georg Peer got to know the scout idea at seminars of the DPSG in Germany. In the following years he passed on the experience he gained there in training courses for young squad leaders.

In 1997 the SP became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts through the Associazione Guide e Scouts Cattolici Italiani (AGESCI) and the Federazione Italiana dello Scautismo (FIS) .

The SP works according to the tier system. Depending on their age and maturity, children and adolescents are assigned to one of four levels:

  • Wolves : Children aged 8 to 11 wear a green scarf.
  • Young scouts: Children aged 11 to 14 wear a blue scarf.
  • Boy Scouts: Young people aged 14 to 16 wear an orange cloth.
  • Rover and assistants: young people aged 16 and over wear a brown cloth.
  • Leader: Adults leading a group wear a brown cloth with a yellow border.
  • Guild: Adults who do not assume a leadership role and have reached the age of thirty wear a yellow cloth with a red border

The South Tyrolean scouts wear a gray shirt similar to that of the VCP, but with shoulder flaps (from VCP's own outfitter F&F ) and scarves in different colors corresponding to the level.
