SFL Bremerhaven is a sports club from the Bremerhaven district of Leherheide . The first football team played a year in the then third-class Oberliga Nord .

history

On January 10, 1975, SG Leherheide and TuS Eintracht Bremerhaven merged to form the Sport-Freizeit Leherheide association , or SFL Bremerhaven for short. The SG Leherheide was created in 1911 as SpVgg Leherheide by splitting off from the Leher Turnerschaft . The SpVgg was banned by the National Socialists in 1933 and re-established in 1945 as SG Leherheide. TuS Eintracht Bremerhaven was founded in 1964.

Soccer

In 1974 the SG Leherheide was promoted to the then fourth-class Bremen State League for the first time . Four years later, the former second division player Lothar Lazar took over the coaching office and promptly led his team to promotion to the association league . With numerous former OSC Bremerhaven players as well as the Polish national player Bogdan Masztaler , SFL became champion straight away, only winning against Eutin 08 in the promotion round . Two years later, the Leherheider team reached their second championship in Bremen, and could only achieve one victory in the promotion round against the later promoted Olympia Wilhelmshaven .

Only with the third Bremen championship in 1988 did the leap into the Oberliga Nord succeed. On the last day of the match, SFL was able to prevail with a 2-1 win over their competitor VfB Lübeck , who had tied for points to date . The media described the team as a "climber who fell from the sky". The Oberliga Nord was a size too big for Bremerhaven. Without a home win and with only 21 goals scored, relegation was missed in 1988/89 . In 1992, SFL was Bremen champion for the fourth time, and missed promotion as a third of the promotion round . After many years in midfield of the association league, the team had to relegate to the Bremen regional league in 1992 and in 2005 said goodbye to the Bremerhaven regional league . From the 2014/15 season, the team will play in the Bremen State League again. In the 2017/18 season the "Heidjer" were runner-up in the regional league and were promoted to the Bremen league .

basketball

The basketball department of SFL Bremerhaven formed from 1991 together with the basketball players of OSC Bremerhaven the game community BSG Bremerhaven . The team has been playing as Eisbären Bremerhaven since 2001 and has played in the Bundesliga since 2005 .
