history
Origins
In 1913, the soccer club Spartania Heutingsheim was founded and thus forms the origin of soccer in Freiberg am Neckar (then Heutingsheim). Together with the gymnastics club Heutingsheim and the cycling club Wanderlust and in 1921 they merged to form the sports club (SV) Heutingsheim. In 1945 the sports and singing club (SGV) Heutingsheim was founded as a merger of all sporting and cultural activities in the area. On October 26, 1973, SGV Heutingsheim and TSV Beihingen merged to form SGV Freiberg.
In 1974, in their first year, the footballers were promoted to the district league. In 1981 he was promoted to the regional league and in 1991 to the association league, from which they were relegated in 1993. In 1994 they managed to get up again directly, but got down again in 1998. After the direct resurgence in 1999, the first promotion to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg followed in 2001 . SGV Freiberg suffered the highest defeat in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 2005 with a 0:13 against SSV Ulm 1846 .
In 2004, the club achieved national attention through its soccer A-youth, which u. a. with the players Marc Schnatterer and Marco Grüttner , made it to the final of the DFB Junior Club Cup 2004 , but lost to Hertha BSC with Kevin-Prince Boateng and Patrick Ebert 5-0.
In the 2011/12 season , the B Juniors played in the U17 Bundesliga for one year .
Spin-off as a football department
Like the other departments, the soccer department split off from the main club in 2010 and has since been its own club as SGV Freiberg Fußball.
At the time of the split, the club had been playing in the major league for nine years. In 2011 , after ten years, they were relegated to the Württemberg Association League. In 2012, under the new coach Ramon Gehrmann, he was promoted directly and then established himself as the best Württemberg club in the top division. As fifth, fourth and third, you became Württemberg champion three times in a row from 2013 to 2015. After Gehrmann left as a junior coach at Karlsruher SC , Freiberg was relegated to the association league after a season with four different coaches in 2016 . After a year, Gehrmann returned as a coach and led Freiberg straight back to the league in 2017 and there in 2018 as a promoted third place. After 7th place in 2019 , Gehrmann left the club for the second time. The 2019/20 season was canceled prematurely due to the coronavirus . Freiberg thus remains in the league, although it was in 16th place and thus actually on a relegation place.
For the 2020/21 season, the club strengthened itself with some well-known players. Among other things, the former Freiberg Marco Grüttner returned after the end of his professional career as a playing sports director. Evangelos Sbonias became the new trainer on July 27, 2020.
