At the beginning of March 1908, six young men founded the first Lippstadt soccer club "Teutonia" , which was accepted into the West German game association three years later . In 1921, the club SV Westfalia Lippstadt joined Teutonia. The stadium Am Waldschlößchen was inaugurated on Ascension Day . Between 1927 and 1933, Teutonia belonged to the highest Westphalian league. In the second-rate district league Ostwestfalen, the Lippstädter reached the championship in 1942. In the subsequent round of promotion, the Teutonia failed at STV Horst-Emscher . For the 1944/45 season , Teutonia was accepted into the Gauliga without athletic qualifications. The game operation was canceled because of the Second World War , even before Teutonia played for the first time. From October 1944, Teutonia formed a war game community with local rivals Borussia and Luftwaffensportverein Lipperbruchbaum .

After the end of the war, the Lippstadt gymnastics and sports club was formed on September 22, 1945 as an amalgamation of all local clubs. A short time later, Teutonia was re-established, which made it into the second-class state league in 1947 . A year later, the club refused to play a contract and decided not to start in the II division . In 1956 , Teutonia missed the newly introduced Association League Westphalia , which was reached a year later. In the following years, the Teutonia commuted between the association and district league, before the Oberliga Westfalen was reached in 1979 after two ascents in a row. After five regular players moved to local rivals Borussia, the team rose in 1983 . More years followed as an elevator team between the association and regional leagues before the football departments of Teutonia and Borussia merged.

Borussia Lippstadt

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

The sports club Borussia 08 Lippstadt was founded on March 24, 1908 . The founding fathers were students of the Ostendorf Ratsgymnasium in the Holländer Hof on Langen Strasse. Just two years after it was founded, the team rose from the lowest division. In 1911 the headmaster of the Ostendorf-Ratsgymnasium forbade his students from membership in Borussia. Two rises in a row brought Borussia in 1935 to the second-class district league of East Westphalia.

After the Second World War, Borussia made it to the national league in 1952. Five points behind SV Brackwede , the team missed qualification for the newly introduced association league in 1956 . A year later the rise succeeded, but the immediate relegation followed . In 1960 Borussia had to relegate to the district league.

Between 1963 and 1966 and from 1967 to 1970 Borussia returned to the national league. It was not until 1973 that the club was able to establish itself in the national league for a longer period. In 1974 Borussia was runner-up behind BV Brambauer . In 1993, the national league era ended with relegation as bottom of the table. Two years later, Borussia began to cooperate with Teutonia in the youth sector, before the two clubs merged in 1997. Borussia Lippstadt became known nationwide as the home club of the later German national players Karl-Heinz and Michael Rummenigge .

The merger

Family tree of SV Lippstadt 08

The merger of the two football departments was not without controversy due to the great rivalry between Teutonia and Borussia. Although both clubs were financially badly hit and bankruptcy threatened, there was great resistance on both sides to a merger. In the youth area, the two clubs faced each other in the district cup final, over 1,000 spectators came to the game several times. The merger initiated by the then President of Borussia, Brigitte Rühlemann, was finally successfully completed after lengthy negotiations. However, according to Rühlemann, there would still be Teutons today who would not set foot in the old Borussia stadium.

History of SV Lippstadt 08

Senior league years (1997 to 2008)

Jens Langeneke

In the 1997/98 season under coach Heinz Knüwe, he was promoted to the Oberliga Westfalen . After a 1-0 win at SC Herford , SV 08 was second in the table on the last match day and rose together with FC Eintracht Rheine . Both in the 1998/99 season and in the following season , the Lippstadt were each third. In 2002, the Lippstädter reached the semi-finals in the Westphalia Cup . Due to the defeat against the Sportfreunde Siegen , the team missed the qualification for the DFB Cup .

In the 2002/03 season Daniel Farke was the top scorer in the league with 28 goals . Two years later succeeded Wojciech Pollok with 22 goals the same feat. In terms of sport, the team was only able to keep the class because of the better goal difference compared to TSG Sprockhövel and Vorwärts Kornharpen . For the 2006/07 season Heinz Knüwe returned to the Lippstädter coaching bench. A series of eleven games without defeat brought the team the autumn championship. After the move of the striker Rodrigo Cesar Martins , who had already scored 16 times at the time, to SC Pfullendorf , the Lippstädter stayed eight games in a row without a win, so that the SVL was only fourth.

In the following season , Oliver Roggensack took over as coach. After the team was in 13th place after the first half of the season, Roggensack was dismissed and Holger Wortmann was presented as his successor. Even under Wortmann, the Lippstadt team finally missed qualifying for the newly introduced NRW League as third from bottom and had to relegate to the Westphalia League. In terms of sport and finances, the club was down, and in order to save the club, the players and coaches had to cut their salaries.

From the Westphalia League to the Regional League (2008 to 2014)

Daniel Farke

The direct ascent failed. In return, the SVL achieved the highest victory in the club's history when they defeated Hellas Lippstadt 34-0 in the round of 16 of the district cup competition . In the summer of 2009, the former goalscorer Daniel Farke took over the position of coach and sports director . With Farke, the association focused primarily on young, hungry talent from the region. In the 2009/10 season the SVL was eight points behind Westfalia Rhynern runner-up in the Westphalia League. Striker Manuel Eckel scored 40 goals this season and was featured on a double page in the sports magazine Sport Bild .

Two years later, the team secured the early championship of the Westfalenliga 1 on the third last match day. In 2012, a league reform gave the Lippstadt-based team the chance to move up to the regional league. In two qualifying games, the team met the higher-class SSVg Velbert . The first leg in Velbert and the second leg both ended with 2-1 victories for the Velbert team. As in the previous year, Viktor Maier was the top scorer in the Westphalia League in 2012. He scored 22 goals in the 2010/11 season and 24 goals a year later. At the same time, the club was able to excuse itself by selling the clubhouse.

Thus, the Lippstadt played in the reintroduced Oberliga Westfalen and played in the top group from the start. On May 26, 2013, the team achieved promotion to the Regionalliga West with a 3-0 win at TuS Heven . Viktor Maier was the top scorer in the league with 30 goals this season. In addition, SVL qualified for the DFB-Pokal , in which they lost 6-1 to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the first round . Benjamin Kolodzig scored the equalizer to 1: 1 in the Lippstadt stadium, which was sold out with 3,500 spectators. In the regional league, the young Lippstadt team fought against relegation from the start. On the last day of the match there was a direct duel with SC Wiedenbrück 2000, who was also in danger of relegation . The winner of this game certainly stayed in the regional league. In front of 2,840 spectators, SVL was able to compensate for a deficit, but had to accept one goal and received two red cards . Since KFC Uerdingen 05 won 1-0 at the same time at SSVg Velbert , the Lippstadt team slipped back to the penultimate place, which meant safe relegation to the Oberliga Westfalen.

Present (since 2014)

After a botched start to the 2014/15 league season , the Lippstadt team caught up in the second half of the season and moved up to fifth. Coach Daniel Farke announced his departure at the end of the season. He was succeeded by the previous assistant coach Stefan Fröhlich, under whom the Lippstadt team played for a long time for promotion in the following 2015/16 season , but slumped in the last third of the season and finished sixth. After a mixed start to the 2017/18 season , the Lippstadt team parted ways with their coach Stefan Fröhlich in early October 2017. Under his successor Daniel Berlinski, the team only lost three games. With a 1-0 win over the Sportfreunde Siegen , the Lippstadt team secured the championship and promotion to the Regionalliga West on the last match day. The playoff for a place in the DFB Cup was lost against SV Rödinghausen with 1: 3.

More teams

Roberto Massimo was a youth player in Lippstadt

After many years in the district league, the second men's team was relegated to the district league A in 2011. Three years later he was promoted to the district league. Shortly before Christmas 2015, the team was disbanded as part of a “strategic change in the promotion of young talent”. At this time, the Lippstädter Reserve was knocked-off bottom of the table. The women's team has been playing in the district league since relegation in 2016. In the junior division, the B-Youth will compete in the Bundesliga and the A- and C-Youth in the second-class Westfalenliga in the 2019/20 season .

Greatest success at youth level was winning the Westphalia championship by the D-juniors in 2007. The A-youth participated in the season 2017/18 at the DFB Junior Club Cup in part, but failed in the first round with 0: 3 at Hannover 96 . The Lippstädter B-Jugend rose to the Bundesliga in 2019 and benefited from the fact that Westfalenmeister Borussia Dortmund II was not allowed to rise. In the hall, the B-youth of the Lippstädter became Westphalian champion in 2014.

Stages

Since the second half of the 2014/15 season, SV Lippstadt 08 has played its home games in the Bruchbaum stadium. The stadium has a capacity of 4,000 spectators and was built on the site of the former Stadion am Bruchbaum . The stadium at Bruchbaum was previously the sporting home of Borussia Lippstadt and was used by SV 08 as a training ground.

The home ground of SV Lippstadt 08 was the Am Waldschlösschen stadium until December 2014. The stadium was built in 1921 and had space for 4,250 spectators. Before the merger, the stadium was already used by Teutonia Lippstadt. The highest number of spectators in the club's history was reached on July 16, 2016, when 8,500 spectators watched a 3: 4 test match defeat against FC Bayern Munich . The normal capacity was increased by means of additional grandstands. The highest number of spectators in a competitive match was reached on November 29, 2002, when 4,000 spectators watched a 1: 4 home defeat against FC Gütersloh 2000 .
