The champions were the Anglo-American Club Zurich , a club whose players consisted mainly of Anglo-Saxon students from the Swiss Federal Polytechnic .

Serie B (Ruinart Cup)
On the occasion of the Swiss football championship in 1897/98 , the Grasshopper Club Zurich cup donated by the Reims company Ruinart père et fils was awarded. This year, the Cantonal Lausanne Cup was awarded, which won the playoffs against FC Bern and United FC St. Gallen.
The Schweizer Sportblatt dated April 11, 1899 reported that Cantonal FC Lausanne won Series B and Series II in a "boring" match against FC St. Gallen. The two St. Gallen goals were reached by nice dribbles from the right wing. The referee was M. Hedinger from the Old Boys Basel.
