The Serbian national basketball team represents the Republic of Serbia in international tournaments or friendly matches.

history

After the state division in 2006, Serbia took part in the 2007 European Championship for the first time. With a 13th place at the end, the team was unsuccessful in this tournament. You couldn't qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games. At the EM 2009 the silver medal was the first success as Serbia at a FIBA tournament. The 2010 World Cup was also relatively successful. Serbia made it to the semi-finals, but lost first to host Turkey and then the third place match against Lithuania . At the next European Championship in 2011 in Lithuania , Serbia reached the quarter-finals and failed here to Russia. Serbia could not qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games. At Eurobasket 2013 one of the youngest teams in the tournament was played and played a good tournament under these conditions, but in the quarter-finals against Spain there was a very clear defeat. At the 2014 World Cup in Spain , Serbia played a rather weak preliminary round, after defeats against the hosts, Brazil and European champions France, the Serbian team had to compete with the previously strong Greeks in the round of 16. There was a clear success here, in the quarter-finals it was again against Brazil, there was also a clear victory against the favored South Americans, which meant that they were able to reach the semi-finals again. Again France faced an opponent against whom they didn't look good in the preliminary round, but here too there was a victory and so Serbia was a bit surprising in the final against the USA, where it was nothing after a 92:12 loss to get. Nevertheless, this 2nd place meant by far the best result since 2002 (as Yugoslavia) where they became world champions.

At Eurobasket 2015, Serbia was one of the favorites for the title, despite the difficult preliminary group. After victories against Spain , Germany , Iceland , Turkey and Italy , they entered the round of 16 unbeaten. Against Finland there was a clear success at 94:81 after initial difficulties, with Miroslav Raduljica contributing 27 points to the success. In the quarter-finals it was very close against a strong Czech team for a long time, only in the last quarter could the game be made clearer and in the end the game was won with 89:75. Against the team from Lithuania there was a bit of a surprise defeat at 64:67. After a 68:81 bankruptcy against hosts France in the game for third place, there was ultimately a somewhat disappointing 4th place in the final bill. Nevertheless, Serbia was able to qualify for the Olympic qualifying tournament and was one of the hosts, after having sovereignly qualified for the games in Rio de Janeiro, there were 2 wins and 3 defeats in the preliminary round, which meant they could qualify for the quarter-finals. After victories against Croatia and Australia, Serbia stood in the final against the USA, which was lost, however, another great success was achieved with the silver medal.
