Simon David Kinberg (born August 2, 1973 in London ) is an American screenwriter , film producer and director of British origin. Kinberg is best known as a long-term producer and screenwriter of the X-Men film series , which he has been responsible for since 2005. He directed X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) for the first time himself.

Life

After studying at Brown University in Rhode Island , Kinberg first appeared in 2002 as a screenwriter for a television production. In 2005, the script for the action film xXx 2 - The Next Level followed . In the same year, the action comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith was based on his script , directed by Doug Liman . In 2006 he worked with Zak Penn on the script for X-Men: The Last Stand . Jumper in 2008 was Kinberg's first film that he was also involved in as a producer.

As a screenwriter, he was involved in the films Sherlock Holmes (2009) and The Trouble (2012), while he was the producer with X-Men: First Decision (2011). As executive producer, he was involved in the 2012 film adaptation of the novel Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter .

In 2010, Kinberg founded the film production company Genre Films .

From 2014 to 2016 he was a regular screenwriter and executive producer (until 2018) on the Star Wars Rebels series, which he helped to create . He also served as a creative consultant for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He is currently the executive producer on the political drama series Designated Survivor . He is also involved in Legion in the same capacity .

In 2016, Kinberg was the highest-paid screenwriter in Hollywood, paid $ 16 million for working on a total of two X-Men screenplays. That same year, he became one of Hollywood's highest paid producers ($ 40 million) for his work on Deadpool . In 2016, Kinberg was named 61st of the 100 Most Influential People in Hollywood by industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter .

On June 14, 2017, 20th Century Fox confirmed that Kinberg would direct the next regular X-Men film, X-Men: Dark Phoenix . It is Kinberg's first directorial work. The film was released in June 2019.

At the 2016 Academy Awards , Kinberg was nominated for The Martian - Save Mark Watney in the Best Picture category. In the same year he received the George Pal Memorial Award . He was also nominated for the Golden Raspberry for the screenplay of Fantastic Four .
