Game mode
- Individual competition
The individual competitions initially started with a group phase in which everyone played against everyone. Then the winners of each group progressed and played against each other in a knockout system . Three sets of wins were played per match.
- Team competition
The team competition was played in the knockout system. The teams started in the eighth or quarter-finals depending on the number of participating nations.
To win an encounter, a team had to finish three games victoriously. An encounter consisted of at least two singles and one double. If no decision was made after these three games, one or two additional singles were played until one team had won three games. Three sets of wins were played per game.
