This list of appointments includes sociologists who took up a professorship in West Germany from 1947 to 1962 . It ends in 1962, the year in which, with Hans Linde , the last sociologist to be appointed to a chair who had already worked in research during the time of National Socialist rule. Hans Freyer and Gunther Ipsen , who were sociology professors in the “Third Reich” and taught as emeriti at the University of Münster in the Federal Republic of Germany, are not listed .
