Taputapuatea is one of the three parishes on the island of Raiatea ( Society Islands ) in French Polynesia . The municipality marker has a share in the Tefatua , which with 1017 m. ü. M. gives the highest point of Taputapuateas. Another elevation is the Oropiro at 824 m. ü. M. in the south of the island.

The neighboring communities are Tumaraa in the west and Uturoa in the northwest. Taputapuatea includes the villages of Avera, which is the seat of the local government, Opoa and Puohone and the bays of Baie Vairahi, Baie Faaroa, Baie Hotopuu and Baie Faatemu.

Part of the municipal area with two wooded valleys, part of the lagoon and the coral reef, a marae and a strip of open ocean was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List by the World Heritage Committee in 2017 as a cultural heritage site.
