Bo Thomas Eriksson (born October 16, 1959 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League from 1976 to 1995 .

Career

Thomas Eriksson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Djurgårdens IF , for whose professional team he made his debut in Division 1 , the second Swedish division, in the 1976/77 season . With his team he immediately succeeded in advancing to the Elitserien . In this he was a regular for three years at Djurgårdens IF before he moved to the 1980/81 season with the Philadelphia Flyers , who had already selected him in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1979 as a 98th player. In his first NHL year, he scored a goal and twelve templates for the Flyers in a total of 31 games. Most of the season, however, he spent with Philadelphia's farm team Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League .

The 1981/82 season began Eriksson again with the Philadelphia Flyers, but played only one NHL game for the team before returning to his hometown club Djurgårdens IF. With the team from Stockholm he won the Swedish championship title for the first time in the 1982/83 season . Following this success he got another chance with the Philadelphia Flyers, for which he scored 45 scorer points in a total of 71 games, including eleven goals, in his first full NHL year in the 1983/84 season . Because of his achievements, he was rewarded with the election to the NHL All-Rookie Team . He stayed in Philadelphia for another two years before joining Djurgårdens IF again. With the team he became national champions three more times in 1989, 1990 and 1991. He also won the European Ice Hockey Cup with Djurgårdens IF in 1990 and 1991 . He was also very successful during his time in Stockholm and was elected to the Swedish All-Star Team in 1980, 1983, 1990 and 1991. He last ran in the 1994/95 season for the Elitserien participant Västerås IK , before ending his career at the age of 35.

In his honor, his jersey number 27 was banned by Djurgårdens IF and will no longer be given to any other player.
