The 1st stage of the Tour de France 2015 took place on July 4th, 2015 and was a 13.8 kilometer individual time trial in the Dutch city of Utrecht . It was the only individual time trial in the 102nd edition of the Tour de France, which last opened with a time trial in 2012 and 2010 . After 7.1 kilometers there was an intermediate time. In addition to the daily evaluation, which is also relevant for the scoring, no points were awarded in any other category. All 198 registered drivers started.

Race course

The Dutchman Jos van Emden , who started early, set the first long-standing best time at the finish and drove the first 7.1 kilometers the fastest. Van Emden's time was then beaten at the finish by Rohan Dennis , who secured the day's victory as well as the yellow, green and white jerseys with his time of 14:56 minutes and an average speed of 55.446 kilometers per hour. Tony Martin , Fabian Cancellara and Tom Dumoulin , originally traded as favorites for the day's win, came in second to fourth behind Dennis, followed by van Emden.

None of the favorites for overall victory were too far behind on the first stage.

Rohan Dennis set a new record for individual time trials in Tour history with an average speed of 55.446 kilometers per hour.
