Toxoplasma is a German punk band from Neuwied . The band name is derived from the infectious disease toxoplasmosis , which the singer Wally suffered from in the late 1970s.
history
The 1980s
The band was founded in 1980 in Neuwied am Rhein, Feldkirchen district , and initially consisted of Wally Walldorf, Stefan, Harry and Markus B., who was replaced by Uwe after only a few rehearsals. In 1981 the band released a demo recording; In 1982 the band was featured on the German-American sampler Underground Hits of the Berlin label Aggressive Rockproduktionen (AGR) with three tracks, where they released their first album the following year.
At the same time, the band went on tour through Germany with the American reggae / hardcore punk band Bad Brains . After this tour Stefan switched to Canal Terror as a drummer , but Thomas "Mitch" Michel joined the band as bassist. In 1985 Harry got out too. After further changes and failures, the band broke up for the first time in 1986.
The 1990s
At the beginning of the 1990s, Wally as the singer, Mitch on bass and Uwe Schellhaas on guitar with a drum computer at AGR recorded new records with a metal influence. The mini-LP Monsters of Bullshit , which was released in 1990, was created in this line-up. Then Mini joined the band as drummer and George Rademacher as another guitarist. In 1991, the LP was released sellout , after Uwe left the band. After three more LP releases with this line-up, sampler contributions and tours, the band broke up for the second time in 1998.
The reunification (2004 to date)
In 2004 the band returned to the original line-up. The repertoire played is free of any metal influence. Uwe was replaced by Boris on guitar in summer 2005 and Harry by Hermann von den Bubonix in winter 2008 .
