Travis Ganong (born July 14, 1988 in Truckee , California ) is an American ski racer . His strongest disciplines are downhill and super-G .

biography

Ganong contested his first FIS race in December 2003 . After the first victories in January 2005, he was used for the first time in the Nor-Am Cup in April of the same year and in the 2005/06 season he won his first points. From December 2006 he reached several top 10 places and on February 7, 2007 he celebrated his first victory in the Super-G of Apex , with which he was third in the Super-G classification and sixth in the overall classification in the 2006/07 season . The next two seasons were not so successful in the Nor-Am Cup and Ganong achieved only a few top 10 results. The best results at the Junior World Championship 2007 were eighth place in the downhill and sixth place in the combined ranking. At the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Formigal , he just missed a medal in fourth in the downhill.

In the 2009/10 season Ganong again achieved podium places in the Nor-Am Cup and celebrated on February 26, 2010 in the downhill from Aspen his second victory, which he reached second place in the discipline ranking. The next day he was American downhill champion. In the same winter, Ganong also competed in his first world cup races . While he had no result at the beginning of the season in Lake Louise and he did not make it into the top 30 in the next two races, he won his first World Cup points on March 7, 2010 with 28th place in the Super-G in Kvitfjell . On March 20, 2010, he became the American Super-G champion.

Since the 2010/11 season, Ganong has been almost exclusively in the World Cup and only rarely in Continental Cup races. At his first major event, the 2011 World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he was 18th in the Super-G and 24th in the downhill. On January 21, 2012 he achieved a top 15 result in the World Cup for the first time with 12th place in the downhill on the Streif in Kitzbühel , the first top 10 place followed on December 15, 2012 with tenth place in the downhill on the Saslong in Val Gardena . After reaching fifth place in the downhill at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he achieved his first World Cup podium finish on February 28, 2014 with third place in the downhill from Kvitfjell . He achieved his first World Cup victory on December 28, 2014 in the downhill from Santa Caterina Valfurva . A little more than a month later, he won the silver medal in the downhill at the 2015 World Championships in Vail / Beaver Creek on February 7th, with start no. 22 blew up the winners' podium, which had already become somewhat concrete.

In the 2016/17 season , Ganong won the downhill run from Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
