Trevor Immelman (born December 16, 1979 in Cape Town ) is a South African professional golfer who plays on the European Tour , the Sunshine Tour and the North American PGA TOUR . He belongs to the circle of major winners.
Career
Immelman began playing golf at the age of five and had a successful amateur career. He won the South African Amateur Championship in 1997 , and the US Public Links Championship and the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship the following year .
After these high-quality victories, Immelman became a professional golfer in 1999 . In the 2000 season he played on the European Challenge Tour and qualified tenth in the annual ranking for the European Tour . There he was placed three times in the top 20 in the European Tour Order of Merit until 2005 . He recorded three tournament wins and in 2004 was the first golfer - since Gary Player in the 1970s - to defend his title at the South African Open .
In 2003 Immelman won the WGC World Cup for South Africa together with his compatriot Rory Sabbatini . He was a member of the International Team at the Presidents Cup in 2005 and 2007 . Lately he has been playing more and more on the PGA TOUR , for which Immelman was eligible as a Presidents Cup player. In July 2006 he achieved his first victory there, at the Cialis Western Open by two strokes ahead of Tiger Woods . In April 2008 he achieved his biggest win to date at the US Masters in Augusta , one of the four major tournaments.
His caddy is Neil Wallace, who was previously in the service of Ernie Els .
Trevor Immelman has been married to his wife Carminita since 2003, has one child and residences in Lake Nona , Florida and Richmond , England .
