The Eberhardshof underground station (abbreviation: EB ) was opened as the 19th  underground station on the Nuremberg underground on June 20, 1981. It is 858 m from Muggenhof underground station and 722 m from Maximilianstraße underground station . Until March 20, 1982 it was the terminus for the U1 and U11 lines. The underground station was named after the Nuremberg district Eberhardshof , which was incorporated in 1899 and in which it is located. It is used by around 16,100 passengers every day.

Location and infrastructure

Map of the Eberhardshof underground station

The station is located in the Eberhardshof district of Nuremberg and extends above ground in an east-west direction in the middle of Fürther Strasse between Regerstrasse and Raabstrasse. From both platform heads, exits lead to a distribution floor under Fürther Straße and from there two stairways to the north and south sides. An elevator leads from the eastern head of the platform to the distribution floor and from there another elevator back to the surface. In the direction of Fürth, there is a 350 meter long parking and sweeping system and in the direction of Langwasser there is a butt-to-be-used platform change.

The above-ground location of the Eberhardshof underground station is necessary because the elevated railway viaduct on Fürther Straße follows it. If it had been built underground, it would not have been possible to have a sufficient horizontal route for the installation of a parking and sweeping system.

Building and architecture

The station structure, for which construction work began on October 31, 1979, is 190 m long, 15 m wide and 5 m high.

The station roof consists of a total of 20 wave-shaped concrete shells, which are supported in five groups of four shells by six columns. In addition, the line delimitation towards the street in the station area is loosened up by wooden sleepers anchored vertically in the ground , which allow a view of the platform from the street.

The station was extensively renovated between July 10, 2017 and September 10, 2017. Among other things, around 550 m of gravel track and 170 m of permanently installed track were replaced for reasons of age. The platform edges and the so-called operating platform in the parking area were also renewed, and a guidance system for the blind was installed in the station.

Daylight enters the two underground distribution floors via skylights, the walls are tiled with yellow ceramic tiles.
