Station name

The Gemeinschaftshaus underground station (abbreviation: GE ) is the second  underground station on the Nuremberg underground and was opened on March 1, 1972. It is 494 m from Langwasser Mitte underground station and 442 m from Langwasser Süd underground station and is served by the U1 line. At the beginning, the station was called Langwasser -gemeinschaftshaus , which the lettering on the walls and platform signs still reminds of. It is used by around 8,600 passengers every day.

The community center in Langwasser was opened as a cultural facility and meeting place on November 28, 1968. Various events take place there and it serves as a meeting point for various leisure activities.

The station is located in the Nuremberg district Langwasser and extends underground in northwest-southeast alignment between Heinrich Böll and Elisabeth Selbert Square. The two staircases, as well as the elevator at the northern end of the platform, lead directly to the pedestrian zone between the two squares.

The Langwasser community center is in the immediate vicinity of the train station .

Building and architecture

Construction work on the station building began in 1967 and was carried out using the cut-and-cover method. The elevator at the north head was retrofitted in 1984.

The design of the station as a functional building corresponds to the style of the 1960s. The platform walls, tiled with ceramic tiles, are gray from the floor to the level of the platform edge and then white to the ceiling, only the strip with the stop name is in green with white letters. The square ceiling supports are also tiled in white.

As part of the renovation work by VAG Nürnberg , this station is also to be modernized in 2018.

The station is served by the U1 line (Langwasser Süd - Fürth Hardhöhe). The N4 night bus (Hauptbahnhof - Brunn) also runs here on weekends and before public holidays .
