The subway station Hagenbecks zoo is a stop of Hamburg subway - U2 in the district Lokstedt directly at the border to Stellingen in district Eimsbuettel . The station abbreviation of the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "HG". The stop has around 19,200 people getting on and off every day (Mon-Fri, 2017).

history

In 1961 the Senate of Hamburg decided to build a cross-city link from Stellingen to Billstedt , the existing western part of which was extended from the previous Hellkamp terminus via Lutterothstraße to the Hagenbecks Tierpark underground station, originally planned under the name "Koppelstraße" should be. While the section to Lutterothstrasse was opened on May 30, 1965, Hagenbeck's zoo was only visited on October 30, 1966. The new route replaced tram line  16.

Hagenbeck's zoo was a terminus for almost 19 years until the extension to Niendorf Markt went into operation on June 2, 1985 .

investment

The underground station is located in a six-meter-deep and 1.1-kilometer long incision, making it one of only three open stops on the U2. Extensive drainage is required due to the high groundwater level .

An access building on the south side of the four-lane Koppelstrasse leads to a very wide central platform that connects to the south. Most of the platform, kept simple with gray concrete slabs, has a roof held by red painted steel girders. The southern end of the platform is careless.

A pedestrian tunnel leads from the counter hall that houses the ticket machines to the north side of Koppelstrasse. Generously roofed stairs and an elevator , which was added later, lead to the bus stops going west as well as to the Hagenbeck Zoo and the North German Broadcasting Area . On the walls of the tunnel today you can see greatly enlarged black and white pictures of animal skins, feathers and wings.

To the north of the train station and Koppelstraße there is a six-track, open parking facility, on the sides of which are the tunnel openings for the route to Niendorf.

The originally existing barriers and ticket offices in the ticket hall have long since been dismantled, as has the terminal building for the stop attendant, which also included the lounge for the train drivers, and the kiosk on the platform.

It is 1195 meters to the Lutterothstraße stop and 1310 meters to Hagendeel .

Connection

The Hagenbecks Tierpark underground station is served every 5 minutes during normal traffic times, and every 20 minutes late in the evening and during continuous night traffic on the nights before Saturdays and Sundays, and every 10 minutes at other times.

There is a transition to several bus lines, including Metrobus line 22 in the direction of Blankenese or in the direction of Kellinghusenstrasse . There is a StadtRAD Hamburg station in front of the stop . There is also a park-and-ride facility with 102 parking spaces.
