The train station, the station list of BVG as Olo (U9) and Olu is referred to (U8), each has a lift to the surface and is therefore considered barrier-free . The tram line to the Virchow-Klinikum and the Bösebrücke, reopened in 1995, is located above the station .

history

The first plans for a express train station at this point go back to 1907. However, the plans at that time provided for a high station at this point. The AEG -Schnellbahn AG planned an elevated and underground railway from there to Rixdorf . However, as a result of the economically difficult period after the First World War , AEG-Schnellbahn AG was liquidated in 1923 . The city of Berlin, which continued construction in 1926, shortened the route to Gesundbrunnen station , so that there was no express station on Osloer Strasse for the time being.

In 1955 the Berlin Senate decided on a subway expansion program (the first " 200-kilometer plan "), which for the first time took into account the new G subway line, today's U9. This plan also provided for the crossing point under Osloer Strasse for an expansion of the U8 and U9 lines to the north.

The first underground construction work began in the area of Osloer Straße in 1973. An underground tower station was built as a crossing station . Halfway down there is a spacious mezzanine with numerous accesses to the various street sections. One level below is the platform for the U9, and the 18.5 meter wide central platform for the U8 is two and a half times lower .

The platform of the U8 Osloer Straße, which was renovated in 2004

As for almost all stations back then, Rainer G. Rümmler was responsible for the design. Both platforms look very similar, the back side walls are decorated with Norwegian flags. The remaining walls were clad with silver metal sheets, which were modern at the time. The ceiling color was originally different on the two platforms, on the U8 it was yellow, on the U9 it was blue. Today both ceilings are painted white. The new station also included a connecting tunnel between the two underground lines. As a result, the U8 became operationally more independent, as operating trips could bypass the territory of the GDR under which the U8 passed in transit .

The platform of the U9 was opened on April 30, 1976, that of the U8 more than a year later on October 5, 1977. On April 27, 1987 the extension of the U8 to the north to Paracelsus-Bad was opened. Osloer Straße station has remained the terminus for the U9. Extension plans have since been abandoned.

The Osloer Strasse underground station received an elevator on June 22, 1990. In 2003 and 2004, the U8 platform was renovated. The silver metal plates were exchanged for dark blue, corresponding to the color of the line. The floor was designed with granite tiles and a guidance system for the blind was installed. Almost the same renovation was then carried out on the U9 platform; here the BVG had the silver metal plates exchanged for dark red enamel plates . A guidance system for the blind has also been set up on this platform.
