The Rehberge underground station is a station on underground line 6 on Müllerstrasse in the Berlin district of Wedding ( Mitte district ). It is located near the Rehberge Park, which gives it its name and was set up in the 1920s .

Planning

The Rehberge underground station is part of the so-called "Müllerstrasse U-Bahn", an extension of the former C-Nord line towards Tegel . The expansion covered around 2.4 kilometers and provided for three train stations. The starting point was the Seestraße underground station .

The expansion of the line to the north was first proposed in April 1929 by Ernst Reuter , the then Berlin city councilor for transport. The expansion began in July 1929, but had to be stopped again in autumn 1930 because of the financial crisis in Berlin caused by the global economic crisis.

After the Second World War , Ernst Reuter, now the Governing Mayor of Berlin , suggested the further expansion of the route. In August 1953 the Senate decided to use the preparatory work from 1929/1930 to extend the line to Tegel. The line extension was opened on May 3, 1956.

Station building

The architectural design of the stations along the new line was carried out by Senate Building Director Bruno Grimmek , who was based on older designs by Alfred Grenander for other lines. The platforms were each laid out in the middle, are around eight meters wide and have central supports with a hexagonal profile.

The Rehberge underground station - originally the names Goethepark and Otawistraße were also intended for the station - has a central platform and a vestibule on the mezzanine. There are two entrances at both ends of the platforms. The central supports on the platform have a hexagonal profile. Until the renovation, these were clad with yellow stones (optically similar to terrazzo ), the walls of the subway station with mint green ceramic tiles . The name of the station is mounted in capital letters directly on the tiles of the wall cladding, the lighting - a novelty at the time - was carried out from the start by neon lamps .

From autumn 2009 the Rehberge underground station was renovated. An elevator has been in operation since December 1, 2010 and thus offers barrier-free access; the costs for this amounted to around 900,000 euros. The wall surfaces were newly tiled with large, light green ceramic tiles. Instead of the advertising space, photos were attached showing the area around the station in earlier times. The pillars received dark green tiles. The vestibules and access buildings were also redesigned with green and deer motifs. The original asphalt platform surface was replaced by natural stone slabs and a guidance system for the blind was installed.

Connection

At the underground station there are no transfer options to other local public transport lines in Berlin .
