The Sengelmannstraße is a stop of the Hamburg subway in the quarter Alsterdorf . The abbreviation of the station at the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "SE".

station

Sengelmannstraße is a station on the U1 line on the southern edge of the Alsterdorf district, on the border with City Nord , which belongs to Winterhude . The facility has two central platforms, each over 120 meters long. But only the southern one is in operation. Its entrance is roughly in the middle and is connected to an underpass of the railway embankment, which leads to a turning point on the south side, where some trips on the 118 bus have ended for a few years.

The northern platform never put into operation

The second platform was intended for the traffic of the U4 planned in the 1970s . With the commissioning of the U4, a directional operation would have been set up: trains on both lines in the direction of the city center would have run from the northern platform, while the southern platform would have been served by trains from the city center. The northern platform is only used as a location for advertising posters and has now been taken over by the vegetation. To the west of the station, the location of the extension structure planned for the U4 can still be seen, albeit also overgrown. The U1 tracks are almost 20 meters apart. Between the two tracks of the U1, the tracks of the U4 would have emerged from a tunnel.

The northern platform is part of the planning for the U5 , which, coming from Bramfeld , will connect to the U1 here and, in a first step, will continue to the City Nord.

Directly south of the underground station is the track of the Hamburg freight bypass line , which runs on the same embankment, and the two lines separate directly to the east of the platform.

history

The Sengelmannstraße underground station was not added to the Kellinghusenstraße - Ohlsdorf underground until the 1970s. The reason was the City Nord built in the 1960s and 1970s as an important office location. Construction of the station did not begin until 1973, and it was put into operation two years later.
