The Union Sportive Oyonnax Rugby ( US Oyonnax for short ) is a rugby union club from the French town of Oyonnax in the Ain department . It is represented in the top 14 league and plays its home games at the Stade Charles-Mathon .
history
The association was founded in 1909 under the name Club Sportif Oyonnaxien . From 1921 to 1931 he played in the top division. In 1940 the Vichy regime forced all sports clubs in cities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants to join forces; so the Union Sportive Oyonnaxienne was born .
The club played in regional leagues until 1967 and then rose to the first division, which at that time still consisted of 64 teams and was divided into four groups. A few years later, Oyonnax descended again. With first place in the Liga Fédérale 1 , Oyonnax won the title of French amateur champion. In 2003 he was promoted to the second professional league Pro D2 . In July 2006, the rugby team was spun off from the rest of the club and reorganized into a stock company. In the 2012/13 season, the team dominated the Pro D2 and made it into the top 14 division for the first time .
