Uthwerdum has been part of the municipality of Südbrookmerland in the district of Aurich in East Friesland since the municipal reform of July 1, 1972 . It consists of the villages Abelitz , Georgsheil , Uthwerdum (village) and Victorburer Marsch . Mayor is Martin Uden (SPD). Uthwerdum (village) is 750 years old and has around 1300 inhabitants. It has a tennis and soccer field. There is also a wood and door company in Uthwerdum, as well as a plumbing company and a wine shop.

Location and area

Uthwerdum is located immediately east of Georgsheil . Overall, the district covers an area of ​​9.89 square kilometers, which rise to elevations from 0.3 to 1.2 meters above sea level. The village was built on valley sand soils, which are underlain by Plaggenesch , Gley and Gley- Podsol soils.

The village was first mentioned in 1476 as to Uthwerdum . The name Uthwehrum has been handed down from the end of the 17th century . The current spelling has been used since 1871. The name goes back to the old Frisian dative plural ut-werum , which means (at the) outermost (distant) weirs .
