Uwe Thomas

Uwe Thomas (born June 26, 1938 in Dresden ) is a German physicist , administrative officer and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Uwe Thomas was born in Dresden on June 26, 1938. After attending school, he first studied physics at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald and the Technical University of Dresden , then moved to the Federal Republic and continued his studies at the universities in Freiburg and Munich . In 1964 he passed the examination as a graduate physicist, then worked as a development engineer at AEG in Berlin and in 1967 took on a position as project manager of the study group for systems research in Heidelberg . In 1969 he became a consultant at the OECD in Paris , then in 1970 he was a research assistant in the planning department of the Federal Chancellery .

Thomas worked from 1973 to 1988 as a sub-department head in the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology . From 1994 to 1995 he worked as a business consultant in Bonn and from 1996 to 1997 he was the CEO of DST Deutsche Systemtechnik GmbH. Subsequently, he was chairman of the executive board of the vocational training center (bfw) until 1998 .

politics

Uwe Thomas is a member of the SPD. On May 31, 1988, he was appointed State Secretary for Economy, Technology and Transport to the government of Schleswig-Holstein led by Prime Minister Björn Engholm and took over the management of the ministry from Franz Froschmaier on May 5, 1992. After Heide Simonis took office , he resigned from the state government on May 19, 1993. From 1998 to 2005 he worked as a civil servant state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research .
