The WTA Championships 2012 (also known as TEB-BNP Paribas WTA Championships - Istanbul 2012 ) was a women's hard court tournament . After the four Grand Slam tournaments, the most important WTA tournament in the women's tournament calendar took place from October 23 to 28, 2012 in the Sinan Erdem Dome . The tennis championships of the WTA Tour in women singles and doubles were held for the second time in Istanbul , Turkey .

The Czech Petra Kvitová in singles and the American pairing Liezel Huber / Lisa Raymond in doubles were the defending champions. All three players were qualified again this time. Kvitová could only play the first group game against Agnieszka Radwańska and then had to cancel the other games. For them, the Australian Samantha Stosur moved up, who was the first substitute player after the preliminary round without a win.

The winner in the individual was Serena Williams , who defeated Maria Sharapova 6: 4, 6: 3. The double title was secured by the Russian pairing Marija Kirilenko / Nadja Petrowa against Andrea Hlaváčková and Lucie Hradecká 6: 1, 6: 4.

Competition mode

In the round-robin phase (Engl. Round Robin) played four players in two groups, each against all. The top two in each group qualified for the semi-finals, which were played according to the knockout system . The winner of each group played against the second in the other group, the winners of these games played the final.
