Waldemar Joachim Freimund Count of Oriola (born August 27, 1854 in Bonn , † April 17, 1910 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( National Liberal Party ).

Life

origin

Waldemar was a member of the Prussian Counts of Oriola . He was the eldest son of the Prussian chamberlain and later lieutenant general Eduard von Oriola and his wife Maximiliane , née von Arnim. She was a daughter of the poets Achim and Bettina von Arnim . His younger brother Joachim later became a naval officer and military attaché .

politics

Oriola studied law in Berlin and works as a trainee lawyer at the provincial government in Wiesbaden. He was a member of the district council and the district committee of the Friedberg district and the provincial assembly of the province of Upper Hesse . From 1893 to 1910 Oriola was a member of the National Liberal Party in the Reichstag . He was a member of the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Hesse 2 (Friedberg-Büdingen). Furthermore, he was from 1887 to 1904 for the constituency of Vilbel a member of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and a member of the Hessian Agriculture Council.

family

On December 18, 1880, he married Anna Maria Berna, b. Christ (1845–1915), widow of the Hessian manor owner Georg Berna .

In April 1880, Anna Maria von Oriola commissioned Arnold Böcklin to create the second version of the later world-famous painting Island of the Dead .

The couple lived at Büdesheim Castle northeast of Frankfurt am Main .

Around 1885, Oriola had the new palace built on the site of the old palace by the architect Gabriel von Seidl .
