final
In the final there was a remake of the final of the previous year, when Griffiths became the first Welsh professional champions with a 9-4 win. Both finalists had won their opening games 6-4, but Griffiths had it much easier in the semifinals with a 9-1 win over Cliff Wilson in contrast to Mountjoy's 9: 7 win over Wayne Jones .
After a balanced start of the match, Griffiths was able to take the lead 6: 1 when the score was 1: 1 and thus ensured a preliminary decision, even if Mountjoy reduced it to 6: 3. However, Griffiths was then able to win you the remaining three necessary frames and won the match 9: 3.
