Wigald Andreas Boning (born January 20, 1967 in Wildeshausen near Oldenburg ) is a German comedian , voice actor , musician and television presenter . He is also active as a composer and author .

He became known to a wide audience through the comedy show RTL Saturday Night , in which he was a permanent member of the ensemble from 1993 to 1998. He gained popularity there primarily through the collaboration with Olli Dittrich in the interview - Persiflage Zwei Stühle - an opinion , which was awarded the 1995 Adolf Grimme Prize, and as a musical duo Die Doofen , which started with the single Mief and the album Lieder, die die World not need reached the top of the charts in 1995 and received all the major German music and media awards.

Youth and career start

Wigald Boning is the first of two children of a bank clerk and a bank clerk. Even as a student he played in the punk jazz - band KIXX , which also Willehad Grafenhorst, Jim Meneses and the later actor Lars Rudolph belonged. They gave their concert premiere on January 14, 1983 at the Papenburg Youth Center. 1985 followed the release of their debut album Hidden Lover as well as tours and international festival appearances, including as opening act for the jazz musician Ornette Coleman . After graduating from the Cäcilienschule in Oldenburg in 1985, Boning initially did community service, but did not complete any professional training afterwards. In 1988 he released the album Bremen with Willehad Grafenhorst (Willy Hart), Susanne Rau and Ulrik Spies as the band Bremen . Shortly after the album was released, Wigald Boning left the band to start a solo career. The solo publications Kapitale Burschen (1989) and Wildeshausen (1991) were commercially unsuccessful.

Directed by Horst Königstein , Boning made his film debut in 1989 in the movie Hard Days Hard Nights . In 1990, the documentary concluded Horny East, a journey through the last days of the GDR by Ulrich Waller on. From 1991 to 1993 Boning was presenter and the daily column Bonings Bonbons for the music magazine Airplay at Premiere , at the same time he appeared from 1992 to 1993 as a reporter in the political satirical magazine Extra 3 on NDR television and later in the media magazine Canale Grande on the VOX station .

Career boost in the 1990s

Wigald Boning gained nationwide fame as a permanent member of the comedy show RTL Saturday Night , of which he was a member from 1993 to 1998. In his category Wigalds Welt he reported in the role of an investigative reporter on fictitious studies and findings with grotesque content or questioned passers-by on the street about self-made absurdities. He gained popularity primarily through the pastiche Zwei Stühle - an opinion that was an integral part of the program with numerous issues. As a questioning moderator, Boning parodied roundtables with celebrities and fictional personalities who were embodied in almost deceptively real masks and costumes by Olli Dittrich . The duo received the Adolf Grimme Prize in 1995 for their performance .

Boning also stood out on the show because of his bizarre clothes. Optical trademarks were suits made of flashy fabrics, colors and materials such as artificial turf , glasses with a till frame and bizarre fashion combinations that were characterized by completely opposite styles.

Also at the side of Olli Dittrich, Boning recorded success with the music project Die Doofen from 1995 after he had already published the album long-playing record and two singles with low sales in 1992 under the name Wigald Boning and die Doofen . Musical appearances with mockery texts on RTL Saturday Night were followed by the release of the single Mief and the album Songs that the World Doesn't Need , with which the duo reached the top of the charts in the summer of 1995. In the same year they appeared in the opening act for Bon Jovi's stadium tour . On the occasion of their success, Die Doofen were awarded the most important German music and media prizes, including the Echo , the Golden Tuning Fork and the Bambi .

2000s

After the end of RTL Saturday Night , Boning first guided through several issues of the ProSieben MorningShow in 1999 , before presenting his 38-episode program WIB-Schaukel from 2001 to 2004 , in which he accompanied mostly prominent interviewees to their hometown. For the issue with Jürgen Drews on June 28, 2003, he was again honored with the Adolf Grimme Prize. Together with Barbara Eligmann , Boning hosted the Sat.1 show Clever! 2010s

In 2010 Boning's fourth book In Rio stands a Hofbräuhaus , which he also set to music as an audio book. With excerpts from his travel reports from different continents, he appeared at several readings in large parts of Germany. In September 2011 Wigald Boning published the book The History of the Skirting Board and its Significance for the Occident - and other scientific studies .

Since June 2014 Boning has been the patron of the non-profit association Dravet-Syndrom eV

In April 2016, filming began on a new documentary format for the TV station History , which Boning and Urban Explorer Friedrich Meinecke are sending to abandoned places in order to research the history and special features of these historical sites. Boning also traveled to Chernobyl with Meinecke for the program entitled “Wigald & Fritz - The History Hunters” . Private life

Wigald Boning has been with the opera singer Teresa Boning , b. Tièschky, who he met in summer 2015 while filming the TV show Rock the Classic ( 3sat ). At the premiere of the Bayreuth Festival in 2017 , they appeared together in public for the first time. Their son Theodor was born in July 2018. The second child, daughter Mathilda, was born on November 11, 2019. The family lives in Munich. Boning resigned from the Roman Catholic Church at the age of 18. In the summer of 2020, he said that he "was pregnant with the idea of ​​changing things again. I am also talking to people in the Catholic Church about it."

Boning has grown twin sons from a previous marriage. He collects shopping lists and nose hair trimmers .

Boning was a member of the Young Democrats (predecessor organization of the Young Liberals ) when he was at school and later a member of the FDP for many years . Among other things, for the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2016, he publicly campaigned intensively for the Free Democrats. In 2019 he left the party.

Sports

Boning ran his first marathon in Winterthur ( Winterthur Marathon ) on May 20, 2001 in 3:30:11 h. On October 16, 2002, the endurance athlete completed his first ultramarathon at the 2nd Ems-Jade run over 72 km from Emden to Wilhelmshaven. In the 24-hour mountain bike race in the Munich Olympic Park in 2006, he started as a single starter and covered a total of 345 km (51 laps) on the 6.75 km long circuit. In addition, he and Birgit Fischer took part as a celebrity team in the 7th Fulda Challenge 2007 in Canada. There they took 5th place, ahead of the second celebrity team with the two competitive athletes Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann and Frank Busemann , who achieved 7th place. On July 7, 2007, he rode a racing bike 600 km from Füssen to Venice in 24 hours . He completed the King Ludwig Marathon on July 22, 2007 in Füssen in 4:03:45 hours. In his former home town of Bernbeuren , he headed the Nordic skiing department of the local club there.
