Will Brandenburg (born January 1, 1987 in Walla Walla , Washington ) is an American ski racer . He achieved second place overall in the Nor-Am Cup in the 2009/10 season and was tenth in the super combined at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver .

biography

Brandenburg contested its first FIS races in December 2002 and in February 2004 the first appearances in the Nor-Am Cup followed . From the 2005/06 season he started regularly in this North American racing series and achieved his first top 10 results this winter. The first victory he achieved on February 2, 2007 in the giant slalom of Sunday River . Although this was his only podium finish in the 2006/07 season , he made it into the top ten five times and finally reached fourth place in the giant slalom classification and tenth place overall. In 2006 and 2007 he took part in the Junior World Championships , with his best result being fifth in the downhill at the 2007 Junior World Championships in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee .

On December 16, 2007, Brandenburg started in the giant slalom in Alta Badia for the first time in the World Cup . However, like in his second start in the slalom in Kitzbühel on January 20, 2008, he was eliminated in the first round. For the time being, these were his only World Cup appearances. In the 2007/08 season, third place in the super combined at Whiteface Mountain was his best result in the Nor-Am Cup . With a total of eleven placements among the top twelve, he was among the top ten in the overall ranking as well as in the slalom, giant slalom and super combination rankings.

Brandenburg had to end the 2008/09 season early in January due to knee surgery. In the 2009/10 season Brandenburg established itself among the best in the Nor-Am Cup. With four wins of the season he achieved more victories than any other runner and with a further four podium places he was beaten by just two points in the overall standings only by Canadian Dustin Cook . He also won the super combination class and was third in both the super-G and downhill class. After his good performances in the Nor-Am Cup, Brandenburg came to his next two World Cup appearances at the end of January, but failed in the first round in both the Kitzbühel slalom and the Kranjska Gora slalom . He was also given the opportunity to compete in the Super Combined at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , where he achieved a surprisingly good tenth place after finishing 27th in the downhill with the second-best slalom time.

Since the 2010/11 season , Brandenburg has started regularly in the World Cup. He won his first World Cup points on January 9, 2011 with 24th place in the Adelboden slalom . The best result of the season was the 22nd place in the super combination of Chamonix on January 30th, 2011. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he started in the slalom, but was eliminated in the first round. During the 2011/12 World Cup season , Brandenburg was often eliminated and hardly achieved a countable result. However, on March 11, 2012, he achieved the best result of his career to date with sixth place in the slalom in Kranjska Gora . In the Nor-Am Cup he won the slalom classification with three victories in winter 2011/2012 .
