Wolfegg is a municipality and a climatic health resort in the Upper Swabian district of Ravensburg in the south of Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ).
About 3700 inhabitants live in the municipal area, which extends over 39.49 km² .

Geographical location
The municipality of Wolfegg is located in Upper Swabia at the transition to the Westallgäu in the immediate vicinity of the two health resorts Bad Waldsee and Bad Wurzach . Their area extends to the eastern edge of the Altdorf Forest at 539 to 731 m above sea level. NN . The Wolfegger Ach , a tributary of the Schussen, flows through Wolfegg .

The following communities border Wolfegg: in the north the town of Bad Waldsee , in the east the town of Bad Wurzach and the community Kißlegg , in the southwest the community Vogt and in the west the communities Schlier and Bergatreute .
Community structure
In addition to the eponymous core town, the municipality Wolfegg includes the four sub-towns Alttann, Wassers, Molpertshaus (with the Roßberg depot) and Rötenbach.
history
Rötenbach as the oldest suburb was first mentioned in a document in 861. Alttann follows in 1179. Molpertshaus (1258) and Wolfegg itself (1275) are mentioned for the first time in the 13th century. Molpertshaus fell to the Rot monastery in 1362 . In the Thirty Years War the Swedes burn Wolfegg down.

For centuries, the community shared the history of Wolfegg Castle, seat of the princes of Waldburg-Wolfegg and Waldsee from the Waldburg family . After the mediation due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , Wolfegg came to the Kingdom of Württemberg , where it was assigned to the Oberamt Waldsee .
Religions
Like the rest of the surrounding area, Wolfegg is Roman Catholic. The parish is the seat of the parish of St. Katharina in Wolfegg, the parish of St. Nikolaus in Alttann, the parish of St. Katharina in Molpertshaus and the parish of St. Jakobus Maior in Rötenbach. All parishes belong to the Deanery Waldsee.
The Protestant parish Alttann, which was only founded in 1888, includes the political communities Wolfegg and Bergatreute and some small peripheral areas of the surrounding communities. The diaspora community is part of the Ravensburg deanery and has 860 members (as of 2004).

Museums
- Farmhouse Museum Wolfegg : The open-air museum of the Ravensburg district with 15 historical buildings provides insights into the living, living and working conditions of the rural population.
- Auto Museum Wolfegg : In approximately 3000 square meters of exhibition area on two historical buildings of the Wolfsegger castle distribute around 80 are automobiles and 40 motorized two-wheelers issued every decade. The focus of the exhibition is on vehicles from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The vehicle exhibition is also supplemented by a collection of various everyday objects from this period. The museum also presents the world's largest collection of unicycle trailers . The predecessor of this museum was the Fritz B. Busch Automobile Museum, which comprised around 200 motorized vehicles and existed from 1973 to 2016. The unique collection of Fritz B.Busch was integrated into the Auto & Tractor Museum in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen on Lake Constance in 2017 .

Three concert cycles take place in Wolfegg every year:
- The International Wolfegger Concerts take place on the last weekend in June . The artistic director is the conductor Manfred Honeck . The venues are Wolfegg Castle, the parish church and the old parish.
- Wolfegg has been the venue for the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival since 1984 . Every year in September up to three concerts take place: in the castle, in the parish church and in the old parish. In addition to the orchestra of the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival, well-known soloists and chamber ensembles also perform regularly.
- The winter music takes place every year from December 31st through January 6th. Chamber music is presented in changing formations around the Beethoven Trio Ravensburg .
Buildings
- Wolfegg Castle
- The parish church of St. Katharina is one of the most magnificent baroque churches in Upper Swabia. It was built from 1733 to 1736 by Johann Georg Fischer , the furnishings come from Johannes Schütz (plasterer of the Wessobrunn school ), Franz Anton Erler ( frescoes based on designs by Franz Joseph Spiegler ) and Caspar de Crayer (altarpieces from 1660). The baroque organ is the only surviving work by Jacob Hör, a student of Joseph Gabler . From Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, the Wolfegger Lent Cloth from 1620 is on display in the church.
- The parish church of St. Jakobus Maior in the suburb of Rötenbach. On the ceiling fresco from 1944 by August Braun , an artist from Wangen im Allgäu, Adolf Hitler is said to be depicted with glasses.

The Bad Waldsee Motorsport Club organizes grass track races in Wolfegg.

The Alttann and Wolfegg stops and the depot in the Roßberg district are on the Herbertingen – Isny railway line . In Roßberg the Roßbergbahn branches off to Bad Wurzach . On this route only goods traffic and excursion traffic is operated on certain Sundays in summer.
