history

First mention

Administrative history

In 1804, the Zeitlofs with Burgsinn and their accessories belonged to the Barons of Thüngen, Eckarts, Trübenbrunn, Rupboden, Roßbach, Weißenbach, Detter, Heiligkreuz, Völkersleier, Dittlofsroda, Weikersgrüben, Graefendorf and Höllich. They were located as enclaved possessions in the district court and rent office district of Gemünden in the Principality of Würzburg in Kurpfalzbayern.

In 1813 Zeitlofs was enclaved as the Thüngen patrimonial place in the Wolfsmünster District Commissariat of the Grand Duchy of Würzburg. Nikolaus Oßwald was mayor; Pastor Karl Adam Hartmann and teacher Johann Kretz. On Saturdays there were messengers from Zeitlofs to Würzburg and from Würzburg to Zeitlofs. In Würzburg they came to the "Schiff".

As a result of the Paris Treaty of June 3, 1814, Zeitlofs and the Grand Duchy of Würzburg came to Crown Bavaria in June 1813.

Religions

There are Protestant places of worship in Detter, Eckarts, Rossbach, Weißenbach and Zeitlofs.

A significant number of Catholics came to the community when many residents were relocated to the Wildflecken military training area in 1937 and resettled in Weißenbach and Rossbach, as well as by refugees and displaced persons who settled in the area of the larger community after the Second World War. In 1950, a small Catholic church was built in Weißenbach as a branch of the parish of Oberleichtersbach .

Jewish community

The formation of the Jewish community goes into the 16./17. Century back. In 1840 the Jewish community had reached its highest number with 110 members. The Jewish community owned a synagogue (rebuilt in 1885), a religious school and a mikveh (rebuilt in 1925). Their dead were buried in the Jewish cemetery in Altengronau .

Due to the increasing reprisals and the consequences of the economic boycott during the Nazi era , all Jewish residents left the place by July 1938. The memorial book of the Federal Archives lists 31 Jewish citizens born in Zeitlofs who fell victim to the genocide of the National Socialist regime .

Incorporations

As part of the municipal reorganization of Bavaria, the Detter market and the communities Eckarts-Rupboden , Roßbach and Weißenbach were incorporated into the Zeitlofs market on May 1, 1978 .

Blazon : "Under a silver shield head, inside a golden bar covered with three wavy red stakes, in red a crescent-shaped silver beech branch with six leaves."

Coat of arms history: The coat of arms contains the family coat of arms of the Barons von Thüngen . The Zeitlofs market formed by the regional reform on May 1, 1978 consists of a large part of the inner Thüngen'schen Zent . From about 1328 this area was continuously under Thüngen's rule. Neither the prince-bishop of Würzburg nor the prince-abbot of Fulda ever gained political influence here. Due to the final act of the Congress of Vienna on June 9, 1815, Thüngen'sche Zent lost its independence to the Kingdom of Bavaria. The beech branch with the six leaves symbolizes the six districts of the Zeitlof market.

The coat of arms was awarded by the government of Lower Franconia on May 27, 1980.
